Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Plasma
Container/Tube: Mint-green top (lithium heparin gel)
Alternative Container/Tube: Gray top (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride)

Alternative Specimen Type:  Serum

Alternative Container/ Tube: Gold, Serum gel

Specimen Volume: Full tube

Collection Instructions:

1. Patient should be fasting for at least 8 hours prior to beginning the test and should not eat or smoke during the procedure.

2. Draw baseline glucose specimen.

3. Have patient (with the exception of children) ingest 75 grams of Glucola.

4. Children’s dosage to be calculated by weight by specified formula.

5. Draw blood at  2 hour interval post ingestion.

Additional Information: Label specimens appropriately (corresponding draw times).
