Interpretive Data:
Fasting glucose is defined as no caloric intake for at least 8 hours.
Fasting glucose > 126 mg/dL is diagnostic for diabetes
Fasting values between 100-125 mg/dL is diagnostic of prediabetes.
In a patient with classic symptoms of hyperglycemia or haperglycemic crisis, a random glucose > 200 mg/dL is diagnostic for diabetes.
In the absence of unequivocal hyperglycemia, results should be confirmed by repeat testing.
