Specimen Type: Plasma
Container/Tube: Mint-green top (lithium heparin gel)
Specimen Volume: Full tube

Alternative Specimen Type: Serum

Alternative Container/ Tube: Gold, Serum gel

Alternative Specimen Volume: Full tube

Collection Instructions:

1. Have nurse verify that the patient is on Digoxin (Lanoxin) and not Digitoxin. Check with nurse scheduling.

2. The blood specimen should be drawn immediately before a scheduled dose. If this is not possible, allow the following time interval following a dose:

-Oral: 6 to 8 hours

-Intravenous: 2 to 4 hours

-Intramuscular: 12 hours
