Methodology
Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH)
FISH testing is always performed STAT.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Tissue, uncontaminated fetal limbs, recognizable fetal organs, chorionic villi, and/or sac and membranes
Container/Tube: Container with RMPI media
Specimen Volume: Entire specimen
Collection instructions:
1. Obtain pink tissue culture medium (RPMI solution).
2. Allow the medium to become room temperature (solution
that is too cold will hinder the viability of the cells).
3. Collect specimen and add to container with room temperature
medium.
4. Paperwork will be filled out by the physician or
circulator. Documentation should be done on a Washington
University Requisition.
5. Send the requisition, specimen in pink tissue medium, and
any extra labels to the laboratory.
