Specimen Requirements

Forms: Cytology Requisition in Request Forms in Special Instructions.

 

Specimen type and clinical data are required.

 

Specimen Type: Varies, fine-needle aspiration

Container/Tube: Slides

Specimen Volume: Entire specimen

Collection Instructions:

1. Label frosted end of slides in pencil with patient’s name and medical record number or date of birth.

2. Prepare smears.

3. Place slides in 95% alcohol.

 

Specimen Type: Fluid or biopsy

Container/Tube: Container with AutoRich Red Collection Fluid.

Specimen Volume: Entire specimen

Collection Instructions: Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, medical record number, date of collection, and type of specimen. Patient’s chart label may replace the name, date of birth, and medical record number.
