Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type:
Inpatient only- Fresh unpreserved stool delivered to the lab ASAP.
Outpatient - stool preserved in formalin
Container/Tube:
Inpatient only - Clean, leak-proof plastic container; Cary Blair or Para-Pak formalin
Outpatient - Cary blair container is preferred. Para-Pak vials are acceptable.
Specimen Volume: >1 mL; vials need specimen filled to the indicated line on the vial. Do not overfill.
Collection Information: Deliver to laboratory as soon as possible.
