Methodology
This culture screens for Group A Streptococcus and Arcanobacterium only. This is not a rapid methodology. No other pathogens will be identified.
If rapid strep screen is desired, order Strep A Screen, Rapid Screen.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Throat
Container/Tube: Culturette Swab, E-Swab
Specimen Volume: One Swab
Collection Instructions:
1. Using a tongue blade, hold the tongue down and swab the back of the throat with swab.
2. Swab the tonsillar crypts, and between the tonsillar pillars. Care should be taken to avoid the tongue and the sides of the mouth as these areas contain normal flora that can inhibit the growth of Group A beta strep.
3. Immediately deliver to laboratory.
