Latex enhanced immunoassay for the detection of anti-platelet factor 4/heparin (PF4-H)
Testing Algorithm
For positive HIT Antibody samples, a Serotonin Release Assay will reflex. SRA will be sent to Versiti Labs (Blood Center of Wisconsin)
Specimen Requirements
Specimen is stabile for 8 hours at ambient temperature.
Specimen Type: Plasma
Container/Tube: 2.7-mL, light-blue top (3.2% sodium citrate)
Specimen Volume: Full tube
Specimen Minimum Volume: Fill to frosted minimal fill line on the tube.
Collection Instructions: It is imperative that the tube be completely filled to maintain the proper ratio of blood to anticoagulant.
Specimen Transport Temperature
SRA testing to Blood Center of Wisconsin:
Send aliquot specimen via FedEx overnight Priority - Monday thru Friday refrigerated or with ice pack.

STAT: 1 hour after receipt in laboratory
Routine: within 4 hours
Blood Center of Wisconsin:
Specimen must be received in the Laboratory by 1600 to ensure results by the next day (results are typically back in the afternoon by 5PM).
