Methodology

Testing Algorithm

If first result is > 2.0 then an additional sepsis test will reflex for 2 hours after the original collection time.  If the second result is > 2.0 then an additional sepsis test will reflex for 4 hours after the original collection time. 

Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Specimen Type: Whole Blood
Container/Tube: Dark Green Lithium Heparin
Specimen Volume: Full tube

Specimen Minimum Volume: NA

Collection Instructions: Tube must be least half filled, kept on ice.  Must arrive to laboratory within 30 minutes of collection.

Container/Tube: Mint-green top (lithium heparin)
Specimen Volume: Full tube

Specimen Minimum Volume: NA

Collection Instructions: Tube must be least half filled, kept on ice.  Must arrive to laboratory within 30 minutes of collection.

Container/Tube: Lithium heparin syringe
Specimen Volume: 2 mL
