Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

Specimen Type: Nasopharyngeal swab

Container/Tube: Universal/viral transport medium with collection swabs

Specimen Volume: 1 swab

Collection Instructions:
1. Obtain a vial of universal viral transport medium with collection swabs.

2. Collect specimen by inserting swab into nares, and into nasopharyngeal area. 

3. Rotate swabs to collect epithelial cells from nasopharyngeal area. Hold swabs in place for 10 to 15 seconds to increase specimen collection.

4. Place swabs in vial, break or cut off shaft of swabs, and discard shaft.
