Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: Fecal Immunochemical Test Kit

Specimen Volume: Specimen must fill the grooved portion of the sample probe
Collection Instructions:

1. Collect a random stool specimen.

2. See Fecal Immunochemical Test Kit package insert for instructions.

3. Specimen must be collected in specific sample vial within 4 hours of defecation.

Specimen to be Tested

INPATIENTS:

Raw stool collected in an OC-Light S Fit Sampling bottle 
OR
Raw stool collected in a sterile container and sent to lab within 4 hours of collection.

  • Specimen should be then be transferred to an OC-Light S FIT Sampling bottle

OUTPATIENTS:

Patients should mail the self addressed envelope for the kit within 5 days of collection to arrive in lab within sample stability.  Sample may be stored at room temperature for up to 15 days or can be refigerated at 2-8C for up to 30 days.  

Criteria for Specimen Rejection

  • Specimen received on Seracult cards - single or triple.
  • Raw stool greater than 4 hours from time of collection.
  • Cary-Blair container
