This is a rapid Strep A screening test.
Testing Algorithm
If screen is negative, Culture, Throat will be performed for detection of Strep A.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Throat
Container/Tube: Dual Swab
Specimen Volume: 2 swabs
Collection Instructions:
1. Using a tongue blade, hold the tongue down and swab the back of the throat with swab.
2. Swab the tonsillar crypts, and between the tonsillar pillars. Care should be taken to avoid the tongue and the sides of the mouth as these areas contain normal flora that can inhibit the growth of Group A beta strep.
3. Immediately deliver to laboratory.
