Performing Laboratory

MBMC Main Laboratory

Methodology

Dipstick: Spectrophotometric reflectance of light on color reagent pads

Urine color: Spectrophotometry or visual observation

Specific gravity: Refractometry

Clarity: Measurement of the transmission and scatter of light

Testing Algorithm

Testing includes: color, clarity, specific gravity, pH, protein, glucose, ketones, bilirubin, blood, urobilinogen, nitrites, and leukocyte esterase.

Urine microscopics will be performed that meets one or more of the following criteria:

  1. Leukocyte Esterase: Trace or greater
  2. Nitrite:  any positive result
  3. Protein:  1+ or greater
  4. Blood:  Trace or greater

A culture will be reflexed if the following parameter is met:

  • Greater than 10 WBCs in the microscopic
