Test Code LAB714 Ethylene Glycol, Serum
Additional Codes
LAB714
Methodology
Enzymatic, glycerol dehydrogenase
Literature Reference:
Package insert: Ethylene Glycol, Catachem., Oxford, Connecticut, 09/2021.
Performing Laboratory
Barnes-Jewish Hospital Laboratory
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Serum
Container/Tube: Plain red top-Separator gel tube is not acceptable.
Specimen Volume: Full tube
Specimen Transport Temperature
Ambient < 2 days
Reference Values
Normal: < 10 mg/dL (None Detected)
Critical result (automatic call-back): any detectable amount (level of detection is ≥ 10 mg/dL).
Any first-time critical value ≥ 10 mg/dL will be confirmed with gas chromatography (GC) to confirm the results. Subsequent critical results obtained on the same patient within 96 hours of the first confirmed critical do not require GC confirmation.
NOTE: Propylene Glycol interferes with this assay. Specimens containing propylene glycol should not be monitored using this assay.
Interpretative Data:
This test was developed using an analyte specific reagent and its performance characteristics were determined by the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Laboratory. The lab is regulated under CLIA as qualified to perform high-complexity testing. This test has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This test is intended for clinical purposes. Current interpretive data was last revised on 10/24/2022.
